Sherif Ismail
Cairo - MENA

Prime Minister Ismail Sherif conferred on Tuesday with Singaporean Ambassador in Cairo Premjith Sadasivan on bilateral cooperation and steps taken to implement what had been agreed upon during a recent visit by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Singapore.

During the meeting, the premier voiced his appreciation for the Singaporean expertise to achieve comprehensive economic development, noting that Egypt was seeking to make use of such unique experiment in diversifying the resources of its national economy so as to be able to stand against any challenges posed by slackening of international economy.

Cabinet Spokesman Ambassador Hossam al Qaweish said the premier asserted that Egypt was looking forward to enhancing cooperation with Singapore in the fields of maritime transport, harbors management, logistics, water treatment and sea water desalination.

Ismail highlighted the measures taken by the Egyptian government to make economic and financial reforms along with the implementation of service and development projects that lure in more investments, especially in the Suez Canal region, and create job opportunities.

The spokesman also noted that the premier expounded the efforts made by the government to overcome challenges facing the industry sector as it provides the factories with gas needed for their operation. He also mentioned the recent gas explorations made by Egypt that would provide the sector with its needs of energy. The premier also unveiled the production of electricity from conventional sources as well as the recent projects of new and renewable energy.

The Singaporean diplomat, for his part, reviewed the recent cooperation relations between the two countries, citing a study for cooperation in establishing water treatment stations and sea water desalination.

The diplomat also explained his country's experiment in developing harbors and special industrial zones, noting that the area of Suez Canal is exceeding its similar in Singapore and expected a success for the projects to be set up in it.

The meeting also covered current preparations for a visit by the Singaporean deputy premier to Egypt this month on top a ministerial delegation to follow up the implementation of joint cooperation programs
