The 13th General Cooperation Meeting between the Secretariats of the United Nations and the League of Arab States and their specialized organizations took place at the United Nations Office in Geneva from 17 to 19 May 2016.
The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Ambassador Fadel Jawad, LAS Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and Taye-Brook Zerihoun, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, the UN website reported on Thursday.
Representatives from 35 UN and LAS funds, programmes and agencies participated. They reviewed cooperation in the political, economic, social, humanitarian and human rights areas, and welcomed the progress achieved in the implementation of joint projects and activities.
New projects of cooperation with agreed time lines and responsibilities for implementation were approved by the meeting in the Matrix of activities within the framework of the UN-LAS cooperation for 2016-2018.
The participants recognized that further strengthening of UN-LAS cooperation, while addressing common issues of concern to the two Organizations, will contribute to international peace and stability, as well as to achieving the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2030.
