Jordan on Thursday received 50,000 tons of wheat as a grant from the United States, the state-run Petra news agency reported. The grant is valued at 14 million U.S. dollars, Jordan's Minister of Industry and Trade Sami Qammouh said, adding that the shipment has arrived in the Red-Sea port of Aqaba. The United States will provide Jordan with additional 50,000 tons of wheat in the near future, he said. Jordan, a key ally to the United States in the Middle East region, relies heavily on grants. The United States provides Jordan with about 660 million dollars annually in economic and military assistance.
