General Electric of America will provide 7 million U.S. dollars in aid for capacity building efforts in Myanmar, official media reported Tuesday. Under the Developing Health Globally Program, 3 million U.S. dollars would be spent on the health care system including reducing maternal and child mortality rate and promoting maternal and infant care at district and township clinics, said the New Light of Myanmar newspaper. As a rural health care pilot project, training, technology and equipment that help reduce maternal and infant mortality rates would be supplied at Yangon General Hospital in partnership with the Ministry of Health in August 2013. GE's Power and Water program would identify what types of power solutions would be most effective and where facilities should be located to maximize efficiency and system stability. Moreover, under GE's leadership development, 50 individuals from public and private sectors would be selected for an intensive two-week program in the United States focusing on the development of leadership skills in business, government and civil society. Additional 50 local leaders will be given the opportunity to participate in a GE-sponsored ASEAN regional leadership training program at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. In 2012, 200 million USD was invested by GE in education sector. The GE Foundation, which is the philanthropic organization of GE, works to solve some of the world's most difficult problems, focusing its efforts in the areas of health, education, environment and disaster relief.
