Denmark-based Carlsberg Group has started its beer brewery operation in Myanmar by opening a factory in Bago region, central part of the country, official report said Friday.
In partnership with a local company, the Myanmar Golden Star, Carlsberg will operate the brewery plant in a joint venture costing 75 million U.S. dollars with Carlsberg retaining 51 percent share.
The brewery plant has a production capacity of 60 million liters per year, the report said.
Carlsberg has no plan yet to export products from the plant and will concentrate on the beer market in Myanmar's major cities, the report said, adding that the brewery has developed a new brand, Yoma, for the Myanmar market.
According to Carlsberg's research, Myanmar's beer consumption is at 6 liters per head on average per year, very low compared with 38 liters in Thailand and 100 liters in Europe.
