Japanese car major Honda says it will recall nearly one million Fit subcompact cars and two other models worldwide due to faulty power window switches. The automaker notified Japan’s transport ministry on Monday that it will recall 203,000 Fit vehicles in the country produced between October 2005 and October 2007, Japanese (NHK WORLD) reported. Twelve-thousand units of the Fit Aria manufactured by the Thai subsidiary will also be recalled. The remaining 720,000 units, sold under the Jazz, the City and the CR-V brands, will be recalled in China, Malaysia and other countries. Honda says the solders in the master window switch on the driver’s side could melt and trickle down to the switch cover, and cause a fire in the worst case scenario. It says there have been about 260 reports of problems with the switch in Japan. Fire broke out in eight of the cases, causing minor burns in two people. Honda will begin replacing the switch free of charge starting Tuesday in Japan and take similar measures in the other countries as well. The Fit was Japan’s top-selling car in the first half of this year.
