Washington - Agencies

Microsoft is to take a 6.2 billion-dollar charge related to its 2007 acquisition of online advertising firm (eQuantive), the software giant announced Monday. The company said the charge resulted from a goodwill write-down on the purchase, and the fact that it now regards the prospects for future growth and profitability as lower. “While the eQuantive acquisition continues to provide tools for Microsoft’s online advertising efforts, the acquisition did not accelerate growth to the degree anticipated, contributing to the write down,” Microsoft said in a statement. Microsoft said that it doesn’t expect the write-down, to be recorded in its fiscal-fourth quarter, to affect its continuing business or financial performance.
