Otis to be fined for Beijing subway accident

Three branches of the Otis Elevator Company in China, including its Beijing headquarters, will be fined 100,000 yuan (15,735 U.S. dollars) to 200,000 yuan for a deadly July accident in which a malfunctioning Otis-produced escalator at a Beijing subway station left a young boy dead and 30 others injured, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technological Supervision announced Friday.
