The rollout of Qtel Fibre services to the Al Khor Housing Community has been completed enabling many residents to migrate to Qatar’s “fastest-ever” Internet service. Villas and apartments in the Al Khor Housing Community are being connected to Qtel Fibre, with residents being able to enjoy Qatar’s first high-speed fibre optic services that include “super-fast internet, and next generation Mozaic TV”. The Al Khor Housing Community is home to RasGas and Qatargas employees and is one of the largest purpose-built communities in Qatar, housing more than 10,000 residents. Connecting a community as big as the Al Khor Housing Community is a major milestone for the Qtel Fibre rollout programme. Fibre already provides an incredible range of entertainment and communication benefits for Qtel customers, and there are a host of new multimedia and business services planned for launch later in the year. Abdullah al-Kuwari, CEO, Qatar Real Estate Investment Company, also known as Alaqaria and the owner of the Al Khor Community, said: “The rollout of Qtel Fibre services for our residents is very exciting and will provide an enriched Internet and entertainment experience with the necessary infrastructure to support the needs of local families and businesses in our rapidly growing community.” Qtel Chief Operating Officer Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed said, “The expansion of Qtel Fibre to the Al Khor community allows Qtel to service the employee base for a number of prominent corporate customers, providing a richer and more interconnected experience for the employees and the businesses.” “Once connected, customers in the Al Khor Housing Community will have access to a download capacity of up to 100Mbps, incredible clarity on High Definition TV, amazing real-time online gaming and video conferencing.” Alaqaria Properties are responsible for the Al Khor development, providing a high standard of homes for oil and gas companies personnel. In addition to home entertainment services, the rollout of fibre enables the creation of a more effective home working environment for these corporate employees. With the Al Khor Community the first major residential development outside of Doha to be connected to the Qtel Fibre network, Qtel is taking an important step forward in its plan to connect the whole country.
