Saab receives order for missiles

The Swedish defense and security company Saab has received an order from a German arms manufacturer for its RBS15 MK3 missile system. The order from Diehl BGT for the surface-to-air missile is worth $25.2 million. Options under the contract are worth an additional $12.4 million. "The order for RBS15 Mk3 is important for us in the long-term cooperation with our partner Diehl and for the continued development of the system," said Tomas Samuelsson, senior vice president and head of Saab's Business Area Dynamics. "Froma broader perspective, it is yet another evidence of our ability to deliver on Saab's long-term strategy to increase sales outside Sweden." Saab's RBS15 Mk3 subsonic missile has a range of more than120 miles. In addition to its use against air targets it can also be used versus land targets. It employs inertial, Global Positioning System and J-band radar. Saab says the system has previously been sold to Germany, Poland and Sweden. The systems will be delivered from 2014-16, it said, but no other details were provided. "The information is that which Saab AB is required to declare by the Securities Business Act and/or the Financial instruments Trading Act," it said in announcing the order.
