Siemens has been awarded an order for the turnkey supply of the Panda Temple Power Project in Temple, Texas. The company will supply the natural-gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in consortium with its partner, Bechtel. The purchaser is Panda Temple Power LLC. The order volume including a long-term service agreement is approximately $ 300 million. The power station will be a Siemens Flex-PlantTM 30 with a gross installed electrical capacity of 758 megawatts (MW). This technology offers high efficiency and operational flexibility. This generating station will be able to supply the power needs of approximately 750,000 homes in the Central and North Texas regions when it comes on line in 2014. The power station will be among the cleanest fossil-fueled plants in the United States with carbon monoxide (CO) emissions less than 10 parts-per-million (ppm), and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions less than 2.0 ppm. Siemens will deliver the power island equipment, including two gas turbines, one steam turbine, three generators and the instrumentation and control system. Bechtel will be responsible for the engineering and procurement for the balance of the plant and the installation, construction and commissioning of the facility. Innovative design features enable higher power output on hot days, fast starts and fast ramping up and down across a large operating window. “Power generation can commence within ten minutes of startup, and full base-load power production in less than one hour. This cutting-edge technology will provide clean power in the Texas market. It also will reduce emissions, allow rapid response to changing market conditions, and enable added investment in intermittent renewable and zero- carbon resources”, said Roland Fischer, CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division at Siemens Energy. High-efficiency Flex-Plant combined-cycle power plants (CCPP) are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal year 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about 30 billion euros.
