Gold prices slipped modestly on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange as equities closed lower on Wall Street. Gold lost $6.50 and reached $1,617.50 per troy ounce. Silver ended at $27.91 per troy ounce, off 11 cents. The euro rose to $1.2302 from Monday's $1.226. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 78.12 yen from 78.17 yen. On the International Exchange, the dollar index, a prorated measure of the dollar compared with six other major currencies, slid 0.21 percent to 82.66. The dollar was mostly lower in Asia and mixed in Europe. The British pound fell to $1.5676 from $1.571. The dollar rose to 1.0033 Canadian from 1.0017 Canadian.
