Tokyo shares closed higher Tuesday, with the Nikkei index ending at a six-month high on strong US stocks overnight as well as Kyushu Railway Co.'s debut on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 130.83 points, or 0.76%, from Monday at 17,365.25. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 9.71 points, or 0.71%, higher at 1,377.32.
Gainers were led by miscellaneous product, transportation equipment and financial stock issues. The day's turnover was around 2,116.0 billion yen (20.25 billion US dollars).
