Tokyo shares slumped in low-volume trade on Tuesday after a sharp rally in the yen and disappointing second-quarter GDP figures hit investor sentiment.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index shed 1.62%, or 273.05 points, to close at 16,596.51. The broader Topix index of all first-section shares lost 1.38%, or 18.16 points, to 1,298.47.
