Tokyo stocks fell 0.23 percent in the morning session of Tuesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 47.66 points, from Monday to end the morning at 20,761.03. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 2.25 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,689.04.
Major decliners included agriculture and fisheries, utilities and foods.
