Tokyo stocks finished higher Tuesday, closing the day above 8,700 for the first time since Oct. 9, as the yen hit a one-month low against the dollar. The Nikkei Stock Average ended the day at 8,701.31, up 123.38 points, or 1.44%, according to the (Nikkei.com) website. The dollar strengthened to 78.91 yen, giving a boost to exporters. The Nikkei index was also helped by a rebound in Softbank Corp. (9984), which had tumbled through Monday on its plan to buy US mobile communications firms.
