US stocks closed higher Tuesday, led by energy, as Wall Street despite shockingly weak economic data while keeping an eye on oil prices. The Dow industrials rose 46.16 points, or 0.2%, to 18538.12. The S&P 500 added 6.50 points, or 0.3%, to 2186.48. The Nasdaq Composite gained 26.01 points, or 0.5%, to 5275.91.
Stocks mostly rose in Asia on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average gained 0.3%, the Shanghai Composite added 0.6% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.6%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.3%
