US stocks extended losses on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 recording its longest losing streak in five years after the Federal Reserve, as expected, kept interest rates unchanged.
The S&P 500 index SPX, -0.65% dropped 13.78 points, or 0.7%, to close at 2,097.94. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.43% declined 77.46 points, or 0.4%, to finish at 17,959.64.
The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.93% shed 48.01 points, or 0.9%, to end at 5,105.57.
