Thirteen jobs are to go at the Peacocks store in Scunthorpe, which is to close with immediate effect. The store in the Parishes shopping centre is shutting despite a takeover deal involving Edinburgh Woollen Mill that will salvage around 6,000 Peacocks jobs nationally. A total of 224 Peacocks stores in the UK will close, as they were not included in the deal, while around 3,000 jobs will go nationwide. The announcement was made by KPMG, joint administrators of Peacocks, who were called in in January. Tony Pickering, centre manager at the Parishes, said: "It is a great shame to lose such a valued retailer and their staff. It just goes to show that many companies are struggling in the tough economic conditions. "We will now wait to see the full details of how this announcement will affect The Parishes, working closely with the administrators. This is a difficult time for retailers and as a centre we will do everything we can to support them. I urge members of the public to invest in Scunthorpe town centre and shop locally."
