The Office for National Statistics in Britain said inflation on an annual basis rose 4.5 percent in August, in line with expectations. The consumer prices rose 0.6 percent month-to-month in August with prices for food and beverages, excluding alcohol, up 0.1 percent and costs for clothing and footwear up 3.7 percent. Transportation costs rose 1 percent from July to August, while prices for furniture and household goods rose 2 percent, ONS said. Over the past 12 months, the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages has remained unchanged, while prices for transportation has dropped 0.06 percent. Costs of recreation and cultural events also fell over the past 12 months, down 0.09 percent. From a year ago, clothing prices are up 0.09 percent, while prices of housing and household services are up 0.06 percent. Over 12 months, prices for furniture and household goods has risen 0.06 percent, ONS said.
