Amman - Fana

Jordanian Prime Minister Ma’rouf Al-Bakheit has said his country’s membership in the Cooperartion Council for the Arab states of the Gulf (GCC) would pave the way for Jordan to deal with economic challenges and enable it to take advantage of the opportunities in power transmission sector. In a press statement published here Friday , Al-Bakhit said, “Jordan’s membership in the GCC will positively impact the country’s political and economic spheres as well as other benefits like opportunities for local companies to access new markets and employment prospects for young people.” Energy comprises the bulk of Jordan’s imports; to this end the Premier said Jordan would seek support from the new partnership with the GCC in form of competitive energy prices. The Prime Minister hoped Jordan would become a vital hub in the region for energy by extending the GCC’s power transmission lines to other regions. Opportunities in transport sector could be explored, he added. Jordan is currently undergoing political, economic and judicial reforms. These reforms will include laws, legislations and transparency in government actions. These changes are on the right track and will spur the economy and boost local as well as foreign investments in Jordan, he said.
