Muscat - Qna

An executive programme project was signed here Monday at the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology at the Omani Commerce and Industry Ministry. The project was about the bilateral recognition of the precious metals stamping and cooperation in terms of measurement and monitoring activities for the precious metals and valuable stones between Oman and Qatar. The agreement was signed by Director General for Standards and Metrology at the Commerce and Industry Ministry Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi and Assistant Undersecretary for Laboratories and Standardization at the Qatari Environment Ministry Dr. Mohammed bin Saif al-Kawari. Al-Khusaibi said that the executive programme aims at following up the Memorandum of Understanding concerning the bilateral recognition of the precious metals stamping and cooperation in terms of standardization and monitoring the precious metals and stones that was signed by the two sides in March 2008. This memo would positively be reflected upon facilitating the trade exchange. In a press statement, al-Khusaibi said that the two sides have agreed on exchange of expertise, visits, scientific researches, as well as, forming a bilateral committee including specialists from the two countries that would be responsible for establishing a system for training the technicians and specialists in the two countries, benefiting from the available services and scientific experience in the two countries and utilizing the referential standards, as well as, discussing the obstacles that hinder the execution of the legislations in relation with the legal standards and audit on the precious metals and valuable stones. Dr. al-Kawari said that cooperation would facilitate the inter-trade between the two countries stating that the Omani industry enjoys priority for the Qatari consumers because of its quality and good standards. The Qatari consumer trusts the Omani industry that was a result of the quality products and standards. "We are proud of the Omani products and the progress being witnessed by the Sultanate in this field," he added. Al-Kawari added that an experimental system was established for regulating the Gulf products after this system was well-studied by experts from across the world. This system includes the establishment of a law and product regulation. The Gulf market is targeted, so it essential to detect the forged and faked goods, pointing out that the system was completed and approved and being applied since July 2011. This system was first applied upon the children''s products by monitoring such products in accordance with the legal measures for each country. There are other goods being monitored, such as, the electric appliances and house ware in addition to applying other programmes on the level of the states in terms of preserving the Gulf safety and health system. In his statement, Al-Kawari said that such agreements would lead to demolishing all obstacles that hinder the inter-trade in order to facilitate the trade exchange. Such agreements would terminate the routine in terms causing a free movement of goods needed by the merchants and consumers.
