Sharjah - Arabstoday

The municipality has decided to allow tenants to pay sewage network connection fee in monthly instalments, it was announced Sunday. "The connection fees are affordable but after conducting a meeting with the electricity and water authority, we wanted to pursue interest that can help the general public," said Sultan Al Mualla, Director General of Sharjah Municipality. However, he declined to comment how much the monthly fees will be according to the new decision. During the meeting that was held recently, Sharjah Municipality and the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) discussed a mechanism to ensure that people will attest their tenancy contract of residential and commercial units, in order to protect the rights of both the tenants and the landlords. Article continues below Al Mualla said the attesting of tenancy contract will minimise all disputes between tenants and landlords and also end the issue of illegal sub-letting. "The illegal connection of sewage is also an issue of concern. We want to impose new regulations so that it will be mandatory for tenants to obtain an approval from the municipality, so that we can provide them with the proper service to the sewage network," said Al Mualla. Proper service Ebrahim Deemas, Acting Director of Sewa, said that they are keen in cooperating with the municipality to implement all procedures to ensure all proper municipal service and quality, and also in improving the quality of services provided to the public. "We are cooperating with the municipality in order to end all the illegal practice of tenants who try to get away without attesting their tenancy contract, or who have an illegal sewage network," he added.
