Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector rose by 0.8 percent in the eurozone and by 1.5 percent in the 28-nation European Union (EU) in March, compared with the previous month, the EU statistics office Eurostat said Wednesday.
The monthly growth in the eurozone is due to the 0.3 percent increase of building construction and 3.2 percent growth in civil engineering, according to first estimates from Eurostat.
In the EU, the monthly increase is due to the 1.1 percent rise of building construction and 3.1 percent growth in civil engineering.
On a year-on-year basis, production in construction fell by 2.7 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU.
Among EU member states, the highest monthly increases in production in construction were observed in Hungary, Romania and Britain. Decreases were recorded in Spain and Bulgaria.
