Dubai-based Kele Contracting has been awarded the contract to build a multi-storey car parking facility for Dragon Mart as part of its major expansion plans. The multi-storey car park facility is being built to cater to the increasing number of visitors and shoppers expected at the centre once expansion plans at Nakheel's Dragon Mart is complete. The gate-controlled car park will add approximately 1,894 parking spaces spread over four storeys as well as underground parking. Construction of the car park started in the first quarter of this year and is due for completion by the last quarter of 2012. Andrew Elias, CEO of Kele Contracting, said: "We are glad to be awarded the contract to construct the Dragon Mart Car Park, which demonstrates Nakheel's faith in us and our performance." The Dragon Mart is a retail complex consisting of various retail outlets, a hypermarket, cinema, children's amusement area, gym and food and beverage venues, and is open for traders in the wholesale and retail business. Nakheel said in December it has leased 35 percent of retail space at its extension in its Dragon Mart Mall. The developer, which is expanding its China-themed mall, said it had leased more than one million sq ft in just five days. Nakheel in August said it planned to more than double the size of the Dragon Mart Mall, which at 1.2km long already makes it the largest trading centre for Chinese products outside mainland China.
