Prosecutors vow stern punishment for data thieves in Seoul

The country's top prosecution office said Monday that it will demand maximum jail sentences and pre-trial detention warrants for those accused of stealing and illegally circulating personal data. The announcement came in response to growing public concern over an unprecedented leak of personal data, including bank account numbers, addresses and credit ratings, belonging to 20 million people in a country with a population of 50 million.
