Singer Bret Michaels continues to face health issues and underwent kidney surgery after being hospitalized six times in two weeks, according to a statement released on his website.
Michaels' longtime friend and guitarist Pete Evick revealed the rocker's condition Tuesday, explaining in a statement this was the reason behind the star's recently cancelled shows.
Over the last two weeks Bret was in and out of six hospitals throughout the Midwest. Including the incredible Mercy Hospital of Northwest Arkansas. The staff and doctors were unbelievable and took incredible care of Bret. Bret continues to be steadfast in his dedication to bring the music to the people. He truly has to be held down to not perform.
In his statement, Evick detailed how Michaels kept pushing trough performances even after being instructed by doctors to stay put -- and with two stents in his body at one point -- and revealed the singer spent the last couple of weeks jumping from the hospital bed to the stage, and back.
"While the last few weeks have been tragic, Bret continues to be an inspiration in his ability to push on, Evick concluded. "He's still not 100 percent, but there are no plans to postpone or reschedule any more shows this year. While he was in dire pain, he still played an amazing show to an enormous crowd in Vegas a few days ago. We will see you guys this weekend in Florida."
Evick also shared a photo of Michaels from the hospital and one of stents he had in his body.

Michaels has dealt with a fare share of health woes throughout his life as he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was a child. The 51-year-old musician made headlines in May after he abruptly ended a show in Manchester, N.H., when his blood sugar levels dropped too low.
