He is one of the few Indian actors with international projects such as Slumdog Millionaire to his credit, but actor Irrfan Khan doesn’t believe in blowing his own trumpet. He says he hates the idea of bragging, and lets his work speak. His next Hollywood project, The Amazing Spider-Man, in which he plays Dr Ratha, is set for release in India on June 29, but Irrfan has hardly spoken about it. Asked why, he said: “I don’t brag about it because I don’t like bragging. I hate bragging. I don’t enjoy bragging. Sometimes people have an attitude that bragging brings something to them, but I don’t want to achieve anything from bragging. I don’t like that.” At a press conference on Thursday, ahead of the movie’s release, Irrfan said he speaks only when important. “I definitely do publicity for a film where I feel it is necessary, where I am excited about it, where I feel they need me ... I go and do it. But I would like to be in a situation where I don’t have to do publicity for a film and people understand there is something special about it themselves. The audience are not fools, they can smell films,” he said. Some of Irrfan’s earlier international projects have included A Mighty Heart and The Darjeeling Limited and American HBO show In Treatment. The actor, who won praises galore for his work in Hindi biopic Paan Singh Tomar, about an athlete-turned-dacoit, has already cautioned fans about the length of his role in The Amazing Spider-Man. “I don’t have a lengthy role in this film. I did it because it was an experience for me. In Hollywood, they call it a pivotal role because it moves the story in some way, but I don’t think it’s a very big role. For me, my presence is enough, and I enjoyed it,” the 45-year-old actor said. Directed by Marc Webb, the film also features Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Martin Sheen.
