New York - UPI
A New York Police Department detective filed a lawsuit against rapper Ryan Leslie, for using the officer's voice in the song "Joan of Arc" without permission. Fifteen-year police veteran Detective Luis Mortimer said it damaged his career when Leslie used a voice mail Mortimer left for the rapper in his song. Leslie's girlfriend, Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio had called police after Leslie allegedly wouldn't stop calling her or knocking on her door, the New York Post reported Sunday. Following up on her call, Mortimer left a voice mail for the rapper, including his contact information and asking the singer or his attorney to call him back. That voice mail appeared at the end of the "Joan of Arc" track, which features lines like, "I wake up to detec' messages in my email," and "And since when a birthday gift is harassment/a rose gold bracelet nothing subliminal/You called your lawyer up said my actions were criminal. Girls play the victim so well -- Joan of Arc." Mortimer's lawyer, Monica Kipiniak said, "The song has caused him embarrassment and has damaged his credibility as a detective." Mortimer is seeking unspecified damages.
