Shia LaBeouf says the night he spent in jail was "quite scary."
The 28-year-old actor detailed the experience in an interview Thursday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. LaBeouf was arrested for disrupting a performance of Cabaret in June, and became belligerent after being transported to the police station.
"Jail is quite scary," he related. "I was there for -- it felt like forever -- I think 24 hours, 25 hours. It was no good... I really went all the way with it. They put a Hannibal [Lector] mask on me, lead jacket -- it was just really rough. It was very scary. I spit on a cop -- it's a no-no. It's a big no-no. I'm sorry -- dude, if you're watching, I'm sorry, man, that was crazy."
LaBeouf voluntarily sought treatment for alcohol addiction after the incident, and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in September. The actor admitted he went through "an existential crisis" this year, which led to "explorations," "hiccups" and "judgment errors." He credited his jail time and mother's influence with helping to turn him around.
LaBeouf will next appear alongside Brad Pitt in WWII film Fury, and is scheduled for Man Down in 2016.
