South Indian superstar Mammootty will be in Sharjah on Friday to collect an award at the Asia Vision Movie Awards. The annual event, which recognises the best from the Malayalam film industry (the chief language spoken in Kerala, India), has been held in the UAE for the past six years. Mammootty, who beat other stars including Mohanlal and Prithviraj, will be honoured with the Millennium Star trophy at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Some of the biggest names in the Malayalam film industry are also expected to attend. Bollywood actress Genelia D'Souza, who made her mark in the period drama Urumi, will also jet down to the UAE to collect the Best Actress gong. The stars of India's official entry into the Oscars, Aadaminte Makan Abu, including Salim Kumar and the cast behind the blockbuster Salt N Pepper will add colour to the proceedings. Legendary singer Yesudas will also be honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award. Tickets for the awards night starting 6pm cost Dh1,000 (VVIP), Dh200 (VIP), Dh50 and Dh25.
