Michael Ansara, the U.S. actor known for his roles as American Indians and as a Klingon commander in "Star Trek" has died, his former publicist said. He was 91. The cause of Ansara's death Wednesday at his Calabasas, Calif., home was not reported. Ansara was perhaps most beloved by legions of fans for his recurring role as Klingon commander Kang, The Hollywood Reporter said. He was one of only seven actors to play the same role in three different versions of the series -- the original series, "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager." The Syrian-born actor played a variety of ethnicities in his roles, including American Indian, Italian and Hispanic, The New York Times reported. He was best-known for playing an Apache as Cochise in "Broken Arrow" on ABC and Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart in NBC's "Law of the Plainsman." Ansara was married from 1949 to 1956 to actress Jean Byron, who played the mother on "The Patty Duke Show." After their divorce, he married "I Dream of Jeannie" star Barbara Eden in 1958. The two divorced in 1974. Ansara is survived by actress Beverly Kushida, his wife of 36 years, a sister and a nephew, the Times said.
