Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has gone public about his near-death struggle with alcoholism. The 34-year-old singer recently wrote a blog post titled Rock Bottom that details the effects "hard boozing" has had on his health. He admits he was "drinking hard every day" until he landed in the intensive care unit with liver and kidney failure. Whibley says he was "scared straight" when he woke up in the hospital after being sedated for a week. He remained in medical care for several more weeks, and the experience led him to "finally realize" that he "can't drink anymore." Doctors reportedly told the musician that one more drink would kill him. "I have my passion and inspiration back for writing music," he ends in the post. "Soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again." Sum 41's most recent release was Screaming Bloody Murder in 2011. Whibley is the last original member in the band's current lineup.
