The last-surviving original member of punk rock group The Ramones, Tommy Ramone, died Friday, his family said. He was 65.
"Tom died yesterday, July 11, at 12:15 p.m. at his home in Ridgewood, Queens," Andy Schwartz, publisher of New York Rocker magazine, said on behalf of Ramone's family. "He was in hospice care following treatment for cancer of the bile duct."
Ramone, who was born Erdelyi Tamas in Budapest, co-founded The Ramones in 1974 alongside singer Joey Ramone, bassist Dee Dee Ramone and guitarist Johnny Ramone.
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 for their influence on the punk rock genre, with hits like I Wanna Be Sedated and Beat on the Brat.
Johnny Ramone, born John Cummings, died in 2004 from prostate cancer; Joey Ramone, born Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 from lymphoma; and Dee Dee Ramone, born Douglas Colvin, died in 2002 of a drug overdose.
