Not much has been heard from Karylle since she moved to ABS CBN two years back. According to Karylle, it was her break-up with longtime boyfriend Dingdong Dantes that prompted her to switch home studios "just to speed up the healing process." Although she's been cast in her new network's noontime variety show, ASAP, and the talent hunt show, Showtime, Karylle has been mostly out of the spotlight, until she announced last week that she will be leaving for Singapore after being cast as the lead in the first ever Pan-Asian TV series, The Kitchen Musical. "I'll be away for four months and it's not because I'm pregnant," she said. "I'll be joining the cast of The Kitchen Musical and it will be shot mostly in Singapore. It's a good break from my routine in Manila, and I'm so excited to be exploring a different aspect of my career," added the singer, who has laboured under the shadow of her more illustrious mother, Zsa Zsa Padilla, one of the few singers in the Philippines who successfully evolved into an award-winning actress. Song and dance Karylle will play the role of Maddie, a talented graduate from culinary school in Paris who must prove her worth to the executive chef in her father's restaurant. Also in the cast is Christian Bautista who plays Daniel, Maddie's childhood friend and sous chef in the restaurant. The series, which will feature catchy songs and upbeat dance sequences, will be shown in Manila as well as 17 other countries starting October. Could this be start of something big for Karylle? "I hope so, although that has never been my motivation. I grew up seeing my mother become such a well-respected artist, and I was kind of drawn to that love for art, and not necessarily fame," she said. The 30-year old singer has promised her friends and fans in Manila that she will be blogging about her new work in Singapore. "And hopefully about new travels and new gourmet experiences in Southeast Asia. I'll be doing a lot of video blogs so I'll still be virtually around," she said.
