Iraqi forces on Sunday took control of An Numaniyah city southern Nineveh and raised the Iraqi flag there.
Besides retaking An Numaniyah city, Iraqi forces inflicted heavy damage on Daesh militants and their military equipment, Commander of operation "We Are Coming, Nineveh" Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Rasheed Yar Allah said.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi launched on October 17 a large-scale military operation to liberate Daesh-held Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq.
As many as 60,000 troops are taking part in the military operation, western sources suggested, noting that Daesh has 6,000 militants in Mosul alone.
