After having performed at Visa for Music in Rabat in 2014, Mashrou ‘Leila will return to Morocco with two concerts. The Lebanese band will perform in Casablanca on Friday, April 21 and in Rabat on Saturday, April 22.
The alternative rock band will be on stage at the Renaissance café in Rabat and at the Studio of Living Arts in Casablanca. Both concerts are scheduled for 8 pm.
The band released three albums: Mashrou’ Leila (2009), Raasük (2013), and Ibn El Leil (2015), since they first started jamming together while attending the American University of Beirut in order to vent the stress of college and the sense political instability in Lebanon.
Mashrou’ Leila has been called controversial, rebellious, provocative, ground-breaking and even revolutionary for their songs that tackle issues normally considered taboo in Arab societies.
The band deals with questions of homosexuality, war, religion, politics, security, materialism, immigration, club culture, and other issues which are not addressed by mainstream Arabic music.
Their social critique is expressed through the usage of poetically rich lyrics, metaphors, personal allusions, as well as upbeat melodies and catchy tunes.
The band has gained global following in the indie music scene, selling out venues across the world.
