44th National Day celebrations

An operetta to express act of love and pride for the 'Mother of Emirates' has added more colour to the 44th National Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi.

The musical event, "Message to the Mother of the Emirates", was enacted at the National Theatre in Abu Dhabi, as a tribute to Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, before a full audience comprising different nationalities on Thursday.

The operetta, an appreciation for Sheikha Fatima's support to Emirati women and her pivotal role in social development in the region as a whole, was held under the patronage and presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. The audience included ministers, diplomats, senior local and federal officials and a large number of expatriates and citizens.

Sheikh Nahyan said that Sheikha Fatima was successful through her national, social and humanitarian activities to extend a helping hand to Arabs everywhere and especially to women. Her efforts reached women everywhere; she dedicated her entire life work to help society and family in general and women in particular. This commitment gave her the strength to continuously give and achieve, it allowed her to be always keen to fulfil all her responsibilities in harmony and stability. Her Highness used all her capabilities to support the overall advancement of the UAE and the advancement of Emirati women, which is proved in her initiatives in the family and social development fields. Her initiatives started with her aid and support to our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Nahyan added that words are not enough to talk about her valuable works that led to breaking the stereotypes of Emirati women, and led to a positive change in statistics on local women in international studies.

The celebration started with a poem about Sheikha Fatima's accomplishments in women development and the overall advancement of the country.

The operetta included four artistic acts performed by female students from Abu Dhabi Education Council schools, and the group "Ornina".

While Ali Al Khwar wrote the lyrics, Khaled Naser composed it and the artistes Diana Haddad and Oraib, accompanied by the children's choir, performed the operetta, which was directed by Obaid Ali. The operetta was followed by a folkloric performance by the military group, which the public received warmly and joyfully while singing along and raising the Emirati flags.
