A glow-in-the-dark vinyl recording of the Ghostbusters theme song will be released next month in honor of the film's thirtieth anniversary. The special edition of Ray Parker Jr.'s iconic theme will debut on April 19 for Record Store Day. The purpose of the event, now in its seventh year, is for fans and artists to celebrate independent record stores. The new Ghostbusters vinyl will feature the original recording, the instrumental melody, a dance remix and a dubstep version. One thousand copies of the record will be released. Ghostbusters first debuted in theaters in 1984, and a sequel, Ghostbusters II, was released in 1989. Production on the long-awaited third film, Ghostbusters III, has begun in spite of writer and actor Harold Ramis' death at the end of February.
