Casablanca - ArabsToday
Last week, the Festival of Casablanca “Casa Music” concluded with a fireworks display and performance by French group “F” on the Sidi Abdel Rahman beach. This was the 7th anniversary of the festival, organized by charity group “Society of Casablanca Forum” under the sponsorship of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI. A mixture of rap music and alvesson was played and performed during a musical Moroccan concert including French singer “Sergio,” and American world-famous rapper 50cent (who alone attracted an audience of over 150,000 people). The festival took place between July 13th -16th 2011, and had a special concert where Marcel Khalife and a group of “mayadeen” beautifully recited Mahmoud Darwish poetry in honor of the late artist. The King of Reggae, Bob Marley, was also honored with a selection of Moroccan Pop music. The culture of Hip Hop dominated the festival; as it appeared very youth-oriented and rap, break dancing, flow, house music, newstyle, and pop music performances dominated the scene. Additionally, there were a few local Moroccan songs which scored a spot on the playlist. Other artists participating in the festival included international celebrity Ayo, and South African dance group “Tommy and de Foleom.” Art paintings were also included in this year’s festivities. A huge audience from different ages, sexes, and backgrounds flocked to the festival, taking up its four stages and all open spaces.
