The leader of Belgium's Wallonia region appealed Friday for "a little time" for further talks on a huge EU-Canada trade deal, after a Canadian minister walked out and said negotiations had failed.

"Democracy takes a little time," Paul Magnette, whose French-speaking region has blocked the deal, told AFP in a telephone interview. "I wasn't asking for months, but you can't carry out a parliamentary process in two days."
