Thai police on Saturday said a car bomb was the cause of an explosion in a shopping mall car park that wounded seven people on the popular tourist island of Samui.

"It's a car bomb but we cannot confirm what type of explosive materials they used," Lieutenant-General Prawut Thavornsiri, spokesman for Thai national police, told AFP following the blast on Friday night.
