The number of people killed when a platform collapsed at a power station under construction in China on Thursday rose to "more than 40", the official news agency Xinhua reported.

The accident happened in Fengcheng in the eastern province of Jiangxi. Rescue work was continuing and the total number of workers involved remained unknown, Xinhua said.
