One of China's most celebrated human rights lawyers was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday for "inciting ethnic hatred" and "picking quarrels and provoking trouble", but the jail term was deferred for three years, state broadcaster CCTV said. Pu Zhiqiang accepted the ruling and will not appeal, CCTV said. The way the ruling was constructed indicates Pu will likely not be jailed, observers say. |
