The US military has confirmed that an air strike targeting senior Islamic State leader and spokesman Abu Mohamed al-Adnani in northern Syria last month was successful, an official said Monday.

"We can confirm that al-Adnani is dead," a defense official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of an official announcement.
