Diane James was elected on Friday as the new leader of the UK Independence Party, replacing Nigel Farage who stepped down following Britain's vote to leave the European Union.

James won the leadership election with 8,451 votes from UKIP members, according to results announced at the party's annual conference in the southern English seaside town of Bournemouth.
