Former Philippine president Gloria Arroyo was freed from detention from a military hospital Thursday, after the Supreme Court dismissed her corruption charges, her lawyer said.  

"It's a happy day today because she has just been freed," attorney Laurence Arroyo said as the 69-year-old former leader, who served from 2001-2010, was released after serving nearly five years in prison.
