Dozens of pro-government activists stormed into the seat of Venezuela's National Assembly Wednesday as the opposition-controlled legislature was holding a special session to mark the country's independence day.

Brandishing sticks and dressed in red, they set off fireworks in the interior gardens of the capitol building, unleashing chaos, AFP journalists at the scene said.
