Islamist violence is a growing threat to the United States and homegrown Sunni extremists are the biggest danger, Washington's top spy said Tuesday. 

In a report to US lawmakers, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said US-based extremists pose "the most significant Sunni terrorist threat."
