Indian police on Monday killed at least 18 Maoist rebels in a shoot-out in eastern India, a local officer said.

"The encounter took place in a jungle that runs along the border of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha (states). Police have so far recovered 18 dead bodies of the Maoists," police sub-inspector C.K. Dharua told AFP by telephone from Odisha.
